ZenTune provides professional TCU calibration for supported Volkswagen Group DSG and S tronic transmissions. Our transmission tuning is developed to complement the engine calibration while improving torque management, shift behaviour, response and overall drivability.

Modern dual-clutch transmissions use sophisticated torque models, clutch control strategies, shift scheduling and protection functions. Correct TCU calibration is therefore an important part of many tuned vehicle applications.

Why Tune the DSG / S tronic Transmission?

Increasing engine torque without reviewing the transmission calibration can leave factory torque limits, shift strategies and clutch management restricting the performance of the vehicle.

Torque Limiter Calibration

DSG and S tronic control units contain torque limits that can restrict the amount of engine torque accepted by the transmission. These limits may need to be recalibrated when the engine output has been increased.

ZenTune adjusts supported torque-management parameters according to the transmission, engine calibration and intended application rather than applying a generic increase.

Shift Response & Shift Strategy

Shift timing and gear-selection strategy have a major influence on how the vehicle feels. Depending on the transmission software, the calibration may allow optimisation of shift response, gear-change behaviour and shift scheduling.

The objective is not simply to make every shift aggressive. A quality transmission calibration should provide the appropriate behaviour for the vehicle, whether the priority is performance, drivability or a combination of both.

RPM Limits & Shift Points

On many DSG-equipped vehicles, changing the engine RPM limit alone does not automatically change the transmission shift strategy.

Where supported, ZenTune can recalibrate transmission RPM limits and shift points so that the TCU works correctly with the engine calibration and intended powerband.

Manual Mode

Supported transmission software may allow manual-mode behaviour to be modified so the driver has greater control over gear selection.

Options vary between transmission families and software versions, so manual-mode changes are only applied where the relevant strategy is available.

Launch Control

Launch control calibration is available on selected DSG and S tronic applications. Depending on the transmission and software version, supported parameters may include launch RPM and associated launch strategy.

Availability varies by vehicle and TCU software and should be confirmed for the specific application.

TCU Calibration Matched to the Engine Tune

The best results are achieved when the ECU and TCU calibrations work together. Engine torque requests, torque reporting, transmission limits and shift strategy should be compatible with one another.

ZenTune develops supported TCU files with the vehicle's engine setup and requested tuning level in mind, helping create a more complete and consistent calibration package.

Supported DSG & S tronic Applications

TCU tuning is available across a range of supported Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Škoda and other Volkswagen Group applications.

Support depends on the transmission family, TCU type, vehicle and software version. Common applications can include DQ-series dual-clutch transmissions where supported by the available tuning method.

Professional TCU File Service for Workshops

ZenTune operates as a professional file service for workshops and tuning businesses. The workshop reads the original TCU file using a supported tuning tool and submits the file through the ZenTune portal.

  1. Read the original TCU file using your supported tuning tool.
  2. Upload the file through the ZenTune portal.
  3. Select the required transmission tuning options.
  4. Provide the vehicle and engine tuning information where relevant.
  5. Download the completed TCU calibration.
  6. Write the calibrated file back using your tuning tool.

Vehicle-Specific Calibration

Transmission software varies between TCU families, software revisions and vehicle applications. ZenTune therefore works from the original file supplied by the workshop and develops the calibration according to the exact application.

Available functions depend on the transmission and software version. If a requested option is not supported on a particular application, the workshop will be advised.

Important: TCU tuning does not increase the mechanical strength of the transmission. Vehicle condition, clutch condition, transmission servicing, engine torque and operating environment must all be considered before increasing transmission load.
